Yoga as Safety Net
Dear friends,
One of my yoga teachers shared this poem this week - I wanted to share it with you as well.
“Safety Net
This morning I woke
thinking of all the people I love
and all the people they love
and how big the net
of lovers. It felt so clear,
all those invisible ties
interwoven like silken threads
strong enough to make a mesh
that for thousands of years
has been woven and rewoven
into a net to catch us all.
Sometimes we go on
as if we forget
about the net. Believing only
in the fall. But the net
is just as real. Every day,
with every small kindness,
with every generous act,
we strengthen it. Notice,
even now, how
as the whole world
seems to be falling,
the net is there for us
as we walk the tightrope of the day.
Notice how every tie matters.”
It's a beautiful poem with a lot to digest, but I summarize it like this:
we are all connected and those connections support all of us as we make our way through each day.
Our yoga practice reminds us of these connections - not only to the body or the breath, but to something even greater. When I practice yoga, I can feel that connection. Perhaps you do too.
That's my safety net.
It's full of small kindnesses and woven with love. It's ready to catch me when I fall. That same net will catch you as well.
It's why I keep coming back to my mat.
Love,
Nina G
