There’s No End to the Jubilance…

Dear Friends,

June has been quite a ride. We've spent a lot of time intentionally identifying the joy around us. The good news is - that joy will still surround us in July!

One of my favorite books is The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. They met in 2015 to celebrate the Dalai Lama's birthday and had a wonderful conversation about joy in our broken world.

It's an interesting book and I often pull it from my shelf to remind myself of their discussions.

They share one of the core paradoxes of happiness: We are most joyful when we focus on others, not on ourselves. In short, bringing joy to others is the fastest way to experience joy oneself.

Our joy grows when we share it with others!

So as we turn the calendar page, let's figure out how we can carry this forward into July.

We know that the world we live in is a messy place - it's full of problems that we can't solve all by ourselves. I'm no expert in economics, politics, or environmental issues. So what can I do? What can any of us do?

I just keep returning to my yoga mat. I know that I can't fix everything that needs to be fixed. That's not my job. While on my mat, I can find my inner reserves of joy and serenity and share them as gentle ripples out into the world.

Give the world your love, your service, your healing—but you can also give it your joy. This, too, is a great gift.
— Archbishop Tutu

As we continue our practice together, those gentle ripples will begin to flow together, creating a stronger current of calm and joy. Those currents meet up and create a river. Eventually, I'd like to imagine tides of joy out there, flooding the world with our jubilance!

Let's make it happen.

Love & joy,

Nina G
